Peet de Vries, eigenaar van Studio TOIMII, heeft de afgelopen tijd benut om te reflecteren op zijn ondernemerschap en is hoopvol naar de toekomst. Als ontwerper legt hij de laatste hand aan het ontwerp van nieuwe krukken, die hij bij OBJECT wilt lanceren.
Waar ben je op dit moment mee bezig?
“Met de verschuiving van OBJECT Rotterdam (naar juni red.) heb ik wat extra tijd om hopelijk eindelijk het ontwerp van de nieuwe krukken te kunnen presenteren, waar ik op dit moment nog aan het puzzelen ben met de uiteindelijke zittingen. Daarnaast werk ik op dit moment aan een interieur van een restaurant en een sokkendisplay voor een sneakermerk.”
Wat heeft de coronatijd jou gebracht?
“Positief heeft het ruimte gegeven om met enige afstand terug te kijken op hoe ik de afgelopen jaren de studio heb gerund, en hoe ik dat in de toekomst al dan niet anders wil vorm geven. Negatief heeft het een beoogde samenwerking met een nieuw Nederlands meubelmerk afgekapt.Tegelijk geloof ik ook vaak dat dingen lopen zoals ze moeten lopen.”
Hoe zie je de toekomst?
“Open, hoopvol, een groeiend bewustzijn; een uitdaging om gefocust te kiezen: wat wel, wat niet.”
Heb je een tip voor mede-makers?
“Weet wat je zelf goed kunt en wat je beter aan anderen over kunt laten; durf ook dingen niet te doen.”

Peet de Vries, owner of Studio TOIMII, has used the time to reflect on his entrepreneurship and is hopeful for the future. As a designer, he is putting the finishing touches to the design of new stools that he wants to launch at OBJECT.
What are you doing at the moment?
‘With the move from OBJECT Rotterdam (to June ed.) I have some extra time to hopefully finally be able to present the design of the new stools, where I am currently still puzzling with the final seats. In addition, I am working on currently on a restaurant interior and a sock display for a sneaker brand.’
What has the corona time brought you?
‘Positively, it has given room to look back with some distance on how I have run the studio in recent years, and how I want to shape it differently in the future. Negatively, it has an intended collaboration with a new Dutch furniture brand truncated. At the same time, I also often believe that things work the way they should.’
How do you see the future?
‘Open, hopeful, a growing awareness; a challenge to choose focused: what is, what is not.’
Do you have any tips for other Makers?
‘Know what you’re good at and what is better to leave to others; dare to stop doing certain things.’
Are you looking for help from other Makers and what are you looking for?
‘Not directly. Although I always like to be inspired by carefully developed designs or projects that transcend temporary trends, whether or not in design.’
