Hoi, mijn naam is Rui Jun Luong.

Ik ben een multidisciplinaire ontwerper met de focus op fotografie en digitaal ontwerpen. In 2O16 ben ik afgestudeerd op interactief ontwerp aan het Friesland College. Momenteel studeer ik grafisch en time based ontwerp aan de Minerva Art Academie in Groningen. Sinds mijn jeugd ben ik al gefascineerd om dingen te maken.

Fotografie geeft mij kansen om te reizen, nieuwe mensen te ontmoeten en mezelf op nieuwe en unieke manieren uit te dagen. Nadat ik een aantal jaar mijzelf heb gefotografeerd ben ik begonnen om vreemden te fotograferen. Door fotografie voelde ik me verbonden met hen. Fotografie is een manier voor mij om mezelf te uiten en vast te leggen wat ik waarneem. Hoe ik de wereld zie en wat ik belangrijk vind. Ik groeide op in het noorden van Nederland, daar waren niet veel Aziaten. Ik heb nooit echt rolmodellen gehad en mensen ontmoet waarmee ik me kon identificeren toen ik klein was. In mijn werk zijn thema’s als identiteit, diversiteit en duurzaamheid van toepassing. Ik focus me op portret- en modefotografie met een sterke nadruk op gedurfde en creatieve styling. In mijn collages creëer ik surrealistische werelden, waar ik mijn fantasie werkelijkheid maak met mixed-media. De wereld zelf en de mensen inspireren me elke dag om te creëren. Ik ben altijd aan het leren en probeer te experimenteren door steeds nieuwe dingen te doen.

Hi, my name is Rui Jun Luong.

I’m a multidisciplinary designer with a main focus on Photography and Digital Design. Graduated in 2O16 for interactive design at Friesland College. I’m currently studying Graphic and Time based design at Minerva Art Academy in Groningen. Ever since I was little I was fascinated by creating.

Photography has provided me with opportunities to travel, meet new people, and continue to challenge myself in new and unique ways. After several years taking self portraits. I started to capture strangers, through photography I felt connected with them. Photography is a way for me to express myself and to capture what I’m observing. How I see the world and what I find important. Growing up in the north of The Netherlands, there weren’t a lot of Asian people. When I was younger I never had any role models and people I could identify with. In my work I explore themes like identity, diversity and sustainability. I focus on portrait and fashion photography with a strong emphasis on bold and creative styling. In my collages I create surreal worlds, where I bring my fantasy into reality with mixed-media. The world and the people inspire me every day to create. I’m always learning and try to experiment.
