Wat heeft de corona-tijd jou gebracht?
“Van de één op de andere dag vielen twee grote opdrachtgevers weg. De zorg van mijn zoontje kwam in de eerste lock-down op mijn schouders terecht. Een flinke omslag, wat nu? Dit heeft er voor gezorgd dat ik tijd had om met een afstand naar mijn werk te kunnen kijken. Doe ik wat ik het liefst wil doen? Wat heb ik te bieden? Op welke manier kan ik het beste bedrijven en mensen helpen? Dit zijn vragen waar ik afgelopen tijd de ruimte voor had om bij stil te staan. Daar ben ik heel erg dankbaar voor. Ik heb al mijn tijd en energie benut om mij als persoon en als ondernemer verder te ontwikkelen. Op dat vlak had ik dit jaar niet willen missen.”

Hoe zie je de toekomst?
“Ik focus mij nu op het ontwerpen van textiel in meerdere dimensies. Mijn specialiteit is driedimensionaal weven. Van ambacht tot industrie. Samen met bedrijven ontwikkel ik textiel(producten), het liefst direct op het weefgetouw. Vragen die mij bezighouden; Hoe kan een volledig product op het weefgetouw ontstaan zodat afwerking en confectie nauwelijks nodig zijn? Welke functies kunnen in het product mee geweven worden? Naast ontwikkelen en ontwerpen ga ik komend jaar mijn kennis delen door het geven van weefcursussen en workshops. Offline en online. Weven is zo’n prachtige techniek. Zonde als de kennis en mijn enthousiasme enkel binnen mijn atelier blijft. Als laatste, een grote droom, is het weven van een mega kunstinstallatie voor in de Kunsthal Rotterdam.”

Heb je tips voor mede-Makers?
“Blijf nieuwsgierig naar jezelf. Wat valt er nog allemaal te ontdekken in jou, als maker, ontwerper, kunstenaar? Afgelopen jaar heb ik gemerkt hoe fijn het is om hulp te hebben bij je persoonlijke ontwikkeling. Hoe fijn als je jezelf niet meer hoeft tegen te houden op sommige vlakken. En fantastisch als je meer en meer energie krijgt van dat wat je doet. Je hoort het wel; ik krijg er mega veel energie van. Dat gun ik jou ook!”

Ben je op zoek naar hulp van andere Makers en wat zoek je dan?
“Ik ben altijd opzoek naar interessante en nieuwsgierige makers. Heb je in je werk een link met textiel, weven, kleur of 3D vormen? Hoe klein die ook is. Ik zou het leuk vinden om een half uurtje te bellen. Om elkaar een nieuwe blik te geven op het werk, of uit je eigen bubbel te komen. In deze tijd is het lastiger om nieuwe mensen te ontmoeten. Ik heb ervaren dat deze manier je mooie inzichten kan geven. Tot binnenkort?”

Makerting spoke to the textile designer and Maker at Makerting

The passionate weaver is putting the finishing touches to her installation for the Textiel Festival Twente. She is now an expert in 3D weaving and dreams of a life-size installation in the Kunsthal. Two clients lost their way due to the corona crisis, but she used the time to develop further. And that gave a lot of energy.

What are you doing at this moment?
“At the moment I am working on a hand-woven art installation for Textiel Festival Twente. Part of the Catwalk: ‘Forces of Nature’, with works by 14 selected artists. My art installation is a 3D fabric made up of different layers, in which each layer reflects the colors of represents a season. By turning it around you are carried away through the atmospheres throughout the year. My installation can be admired from June 5 to November at the Lasonderkerk in Enschede.”

What has the corona time brought you?
“From one day to the next, two major clients dropped out. My son’s worries fell on my shoulders in the first lock-down. look at my work from a distance Am I doing what I most want to do What do I have to offer How can I best help companies and people These are questions that I recently had the space to consider I am very grateful for that. I have used all my time and energy to further develop myself as a person and as an entrepreneur. In that area I would not have wanted to miss this year.”

How do you see the future?
“I now focus on designing textiles in multiple dimensions. My specialty is three-dimensional weaving. From craft to industry. I develop textile (products) together with companies. I prefer to develop 3D woven textile (products) directly on the loom. How can a complete product be created on the loom so that finishing and confection are hardly needed?What functions can be woven into the product?These are questions that keep me busy. In addition to developing and designing, I will be sharing my knowledge. Giving weaving courses and workshops. Offline and online. Weaving is such a beautiful technique. It would be a shame if the knowledge and my enthusiasm only remain within my studio. Last, a big dream, is to weave a mega art installation for the Kunsthal Rotterdam.”

Do you have any tips for fellow Makers?
“Stay curious about yourself. What is there still to discover in you, as a maker, designer, artist? Last year I noticed how nice it is to have help with your personal development. How nice when you no longer have to in some areas. And fantastic if you get more and more energy from what you do.

Are you looking for help from other Makers and what are you looking for?
“I am always looking for interesting and curious makers. Do you have a link in your work with textiles, weaving, color or 3D shapes? No matter how small it is. I would like to call for half an hour. to give you a look at work, or to get out of your own bubble. In these times it is more difficult to meet new people. I have experienced that this way can give you beautiful insights. See you soon?”
